Testing is one layer of the safety system which ensures that students arrive at their course healthy. All students are heavily encouraged to obtain an FDA-authorized COVID-19 viral test and submit their negative test result prior to the first day of course.
Fully vaccinated students may forgo pre-course testing but must submit proof of vaccination prior to beginning an expedition. People are considered fully vaccinated 2–weeks after their final dose of a vaccine. Regardless of vaccinated status, all participants will also be tested Outward Bound, on day 1 and 5 of their course.
Strict social distancing means limiting exposure to non-family members, wearing a face mask around non-family members, avoiding large crowds/gatherings, and limiting non-essential travel for 14 days prior to the start of your course. This is required in order to minimize your exposure to communicable disease.
All students and parents may need to sign an additional COVID-19 Statement of Understanding that outlines your responsibilities and commitment to making sure that you are able to arrive at Outward Bound healthy.
During the screening process from Admissions leading up to the course, applicants are asked to disclose any contact history that would put them in a higher risk category for contracting or transmitting COVID-19. If Outward Bound needs to cancel a course due to COVID-19 your Course Advisor will assist you in transferring to a future Outward Bound course OR issue a course credit for a future Outward Bound course OR issue a refund in full.
If travel or other challenges result in enrollment dropping so low that the group size is below what we believe is necessary for the valuable interpersonal dynamics of an Outward Bound course, we will seek to transfer students and combine groups.
