YOUR LESSON HERE:

Learn three common communication styles through skits

Students consider strategies that help with listening

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

Essential Questions allow students to keep the main idea in mind. They can provide the motivation to keep asking, learning, and being curious, in pursuit of answers to big questions.

Use one of the following Essential Questions to guide this Session:

  • What strategies do people use when they encounter a problem or challenge?
  • What skills are needed to be a community member?
  • What is most important when collaborating with a group of people?
FACILITATION TIPS:

Effective communication consists of both speaking and listening. Active listening is a way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding. Active Listening is rooted in empathy, which allows us to truly listen and seek solutions that are mutually beneficial.

If the Communication Styles or Active Listening lesson don't resonate with students' experience in the previous steps of this lesson, search for other communication topics to build from where students are at.

If you're looking for other options, try out Body Language, Considering Conflict, or View from the Window.
