LESSONS INCLUDED:

Students participate in a group activity that requires skills such as collaboration, support, problem solving, flexibility, and trust.

A series of broad discussion questions on social responsibility and leadership.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

Use one of the following Essential Questions to guide this Leadership Unit:

  • What is leadership?
  • How is leadership different when defined by a set of actions rather than a position?
  • What makes an effective leader?
  • Why are some influential people called leaders, while others are ‘famous’ or ‘influential’?
  • Can leadership be defined?

Essential Questions allow students to keep the main idea in mind. They can provide the motivation to keep asking, learning, and being curious, in pursuit of answers to big questions.

FACILITATION TIPS:

This final step of the Leadership Session allows students to test what they've been talking about all along. How do leadership characteristics exhibit themselves during this step? Begin with the River Crossing Challenge and end with the Leadership Roundtable.
