Welcoming Larry Savoy to the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School Board of Trustees!

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Larry Savoy to the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School (CBOBS) Board of Trustees. Larry brings with him a wealth of expertise through his years as an educator, school administrator, and his current role as the President of Archbishop Carroll High School. He has been a champion of social emotional learning, not to mention, he is a 3x Outward Bound alum.

Savoy shares, “I was honored to be asked to join the Board. I believe in the mission of Outward Bound. I believe that our students should have this opportunity to do something that they probably would never be able to do. More than that, they can have this experience, and then bring it back into the community, that leadership aspect. I just want to do all I can to support it.”

As the president of Archbishop Carroll High School, his life and career in education have come full circle. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C., in 1993, and returned in 1997 to serve as an administrator and teacher for 14 years. Larry stepped into his current role as President in 2018.

When CBOBS looked to build strategic, new partnerships with the announcement of our Washington, D.C. campus in 2019, Larry became an early advocate of our programming, bringing Outward Bound to the students of Archbishop Carroll HS.

In November 2021, Archbishop Carroll became the first D.C. based school to offer their students an Outward Bound expedition- five days and four nights backpacking and rock climbing on the Appalachian Trail. Savoy, a true believer of leading and building by example, has joined his students on their Outward Bound expeditions each year.

Larry reflects on the experiences saying, “I believe that this is a leadership program. I believe that this is something that builds character. I believe that this is something that they will never forget. But it’s not just the experience of being on the trail, it’s more so of how they overcame certain obstacles. And when they are faced with that in the community, at Archbishop Carroll or at home, I want them to be able to think back to that and use that, but it just doesn’t stop, you know, with an expedition. This is cultivating leadership.”

As Larry looks ahead to serving on the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School’s Board, he emphasizes the importance of providing access and opportunities for future generations of students. “It’s about their growth and their development. So, I hope that being on the Board I can have a positive impact and get to work with the other Board Members and the team to really continue to grow this wonderful program.”

Larry’s experience, insights and guidance will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School, ensuring that we can make an even greater impact on future leaders across the region. Please join us in welcoming Larry Savoy.
